Hi my name’s Tony welcome to my website
Until recently I was a presenter on a Hospital Radio Station called the Jumbo Sound
When working there I appeared on Tuesday evenings 8pm to 10pm on my own show Tone’s Box of Delights. Since the station hit the internet in June 2006 I was playing the sounds that you all know and love and also straying into more current music . Generally I was happy to play most types of music on the show so was happy for listeners to come on board and make a request if there was something specific they’d like to hear. I have also had the pleasure of interviewing a number of personalities who I respect from groups and in the media.
Back in the mid sixties I was a great fan of the commercial radio stations such as Radio Caroline, London and Swinging Radio England. For the first time in the UK we had access to Top 40 Radio at the touch of a button. Opportunities were available to apply to these stations to become a presenter, but sadly I was just a bit too young to jump on board this window of opportunity and shortly after their demise I decided to get a proper job and so my original dream kind of got deferred. The dream of radio was however reinstated when I saw a weekend course at the South East Essex College titled “Radio Presentation Skills Course”.
The course tutor Pete Sipple was excellent in his approach and I have to say it was very much a hands on course. Pete worked previously on Essex Radio and so all of the information he gave was totally factual. See my comments on this course on Pete’s website. My former colleague Ricky Moore who does The Road to Recovery programme on Thursdays 6pm to 8pm also took this course.
I was very happy to be presenting my programme on The Jumbo Sound as it gave me an opportunity to interview famous names as well as local people who had an interesting story to tell. I had the pleasure of interviewing Opal Bonfante on my very first programme so thanks to Opal for the opportunity of a live interview, this will always be remembered. I was also thrilled when Opal came on to my final programme on Jumbo Sound to have a chat with me. Hope to strive to be a professional presenter at some stage.
I have now moved into a new Community Radio Station Link FM. Link FM broadcast to Havering on 92.2 FM and on the worldwide web
Here you can hear me currently broadcasting throughout Sundays on variious 2 hour slots. In addition I am currently recording a 2hours a week series called The History of Motown which will be scheduled for broadcast soon.
David Hamilton, Keith Skues, Frank Allen, Ray Ennis Mike Read, Kenny Everett, Dave Cash., Opal Bonfante and Sue Marchant and of course my soul mate and wife Gill. I will let everybody know the next chapter in this magical journey as soon as I have some information to provide.
